Craps Rules
Table Positions
Besides the players surrounding the table, there are usually a team of five casino employees and sometimes more.:
- the boxman - possibility 2 boxman
- 2 dealers and a relief dealer
- a stickman
- the boxman
The boxman is a casino exec who sits across from players at the craps table and supervises the game. If there are any disputes, the boxman settle the dispute. The boxman is also in charge of the cash at the table. If there are a lot of players or a high roller you might find two boxman.
The dealers are on each side of the boxman. They pay off the winning bets, pick up the chips on losing bets, and they make change when a player wants to make change.
The stickman is the announcer of the craps table, announcing every dice roll, and shilling the different betting options available. The stickman sets the tone and pace for the game, and his role is very important.
These people rotate into different positions every 20 minutes or so, especially the dealers and the stickmen.
Buying Chips
To buy chips at a craps table you place the cash on the table and say "Change". You DO NOT put your money in the dealers hand; they are not allowed to accept your cash unless it is on the table. The dealer will take your money and give it to the boxman to count. Once the boxman has counted the bills he will announce to the dealer the amount you bought and the dealer will place the chips in front of you. In the crap table railing there is a grove for you to place your chips in.
Placing your bet
You can place the following bets yourself:
- Pass-line bets
- Don't pass bets
- Come-line bets
- Field bets
- Big-6 bets
- Big-8 bets
To place one of the above bets, just place the amount you want to wager on the appropriately-labeled section of the craps table.
You are not allowed to place your own bets on numbered spots, and you're not allowed to place your own proposition bets. To place a bet in one of those areas, pitch your chips in and call out your bet, and either the stickman or the dealer will put the bet in the appropriate place.
No Roll
If the dice fly off the table or land on the railing, or if they wind up in the dice bowl or on top of the chips in front of the boxman, the stickman will call a "no roll". That throw of the dice no longer counts. No bets are exchanged, and new dice are given to the shooter to throw. Part of the reason for this is to prevent players from introducing loaded dice into the game when the dice roll off the table
Rules for Throwing the Dice
Throwing the dice is what craps is about. As with all the other rules this too is regulated. Craps rules for throwing the dice must be followed or the throw is void. The craps rules and regulations for throwing the dice follow.
- When you are the shooter choose two of the five dice he dealer hands you.
- Handle the dice with one hand ONLY!
- Throw the dice hard enough that one of the dice banks off the felt at the end of the craps table.
- Don't throw the dice over your shoulder.
The dealers are concerned about the pace of the game, so don't throw the dice in a way that slows the game. If the dealer sees that you are slowing down the game, he can legally take the dice away from you and ask you to leave the table.
